Sports and Recreation

Government Office for the East Midlands (GOEM) works closely with Sport England East Midlands to ensure that the benefits of sport are more widely understood, in particular healthier living and increasing participation in physical activities, social inclusion and crime prevention.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) aims to improve the quality of life for all through providing better sporting opportunities at every level. Sport is very powerful both in the pursuit of excellence and helping to tackle social and health problems. The 2004 Spending Review will bring £431 million from central government for sport over the period 2005 to 2008. More information on the national picture

The aim is to make the East Midlands the most active and successful sporting region in England.
