The contents of this website are under review following the formation of a new HM Government. Current information may be found at www.gonetwork.gos.gov.uk.

Serious Acquisitive Crime

Serious acquisitive crime comprises domestic burglary, personal and business robbery and theft of and from vehicles.
The continued reduction of serious acquisitive crime ‘through a focus on the issues of greater priority in each locality and the most harmful offenders’ is a key element of the new Public Service Agreement (PSA) 23 Making Communities Safer.

‘Acquisitive crime’ covers aspects of theft and robbery including street crime, business and retail crime and vehicle crime. More information on the national picture

Serious acquisitive crime in the East Midlands in 2007/8 was broadly in line with the national average. However, there was significant variation within the region with key challenges being faced in a number of localities along the ‘M1-A1’ corridor.

GOEM looks to secure reductions in serious acquisitive crime through:

  • general and targeted promotion of improved local community safety partnership working and delivery
  • the regional delivery of Prolific and Priority Offenders (PPO) activity and the Drug Interventions Programme (DIP)
  • the setting and performance management of serious acquisitive crime LAA improvement targets
